New Driving Vision Tests

In future all driving licenses and renewal forms will include a declaration that the applicant will have to sign. This declaration will state that the named individual does meet the visual standards for driving (click here for more details) and also has never been advised by a doctor or optometrist that their vision standard falls below the required standard.

The purpose of this new legislation, the DVLA has confirmed, is to protect road users from drivers with poor vision and takes place with immediate effect.

Unfortunately, there is still no mandate in place to ensure that drivers do regularly attend for an eye examination, despite recognition that maintaining vision standards is so important.
