Retinal implants

The link between medicine and technology may be strengthened further as we look to a future of wearable technology integrating an implanted chip with a set of video glasses.

A Camera mounted in the glasses wirelessly relays video signals to a chip implanted in the patient’s retina, which transfers the information to the optic nerve.

The resolution is still very low, currently limited to shapes and outlines, but it may offer hope for patients with inherited degenerative eye conditions such as retinitis pigmentosa.
