Tackling predicted sight loss in UK

The number of people experiencing sight loss in the UK is expected to double by 2050. The UK Vision Strategy are working hard to prevent this prediction from becoming a reality by finding ways to improve diagnosis and establish better care and treatment procedures, with the overall aim being to improve eye health, eliminate avoidable sight loss and increases inclusion for people living with visual impairment.

It is estimated that over 50% of sight loss in the UK could be avoided by having regular eye examinations to enable early detection and treatment of disease. Experts also advise exercising regularly, stopping smoking, eating a healthy diet and protecting the eyes against harmful UV radiation to help maintain healthier eyes.
