FSB Awards London

FSB Micro Business of the Year, London Finalist

Federation of Small Businesses Finalist

We were thrilled to have been nominated as one of the London finalists in the Micro Business of the Year at the FSB awards.

Being a finalist for such a prestigious award that had so many thousands of entries was immensely gratifying and showed the tremendous work that we have put in to provide the very best eye care and customer service for our community.

The Federation of Small Business London Awards ceremony was held at The Tower Hotel in March 2023 and Deven and the team had a fantastic day meeting lots of other small independent businesses from diverse sectors.

Sadly, we didn’t win this year, but the team enjoyed a lovely lunch, met some of the other nominees and winners, all with a fabulous view of Tower Bridge!

Business owner and optometrist Deven Lakhani said:

Our family-run business was set up in 1932 and has been looking after the eyecare needs for Enfield residents continuously since then and we plan to continue to provide the same level of excellent care and service for many years to come.

We are very proud and honoured to be recognised by the FSB for being one of the outstanding micro businesses of the year and although we weren’t winners this year, this accolade will encourage us to become even better in the future.

We take great pride in still our huge achievement to be shortlisted in the Micro Business of the Year category and we’d like to thank everyone who sent us messages of support and well wishes.

Jinja Ratna Award

Outstanding achievements in business & the local community

The accolades keep rolling in! This time, the award was made to Deven personally and it was in recognition for his work in building a successful community business that has provided customer service excellence and for the charity work he has done.

The Jinja Ratna Awards are open to individuals who have a connection with the town of Jinja in Uganda and are awarded for people who have contributed to their community through business, education, or charity projects.

Deven was nominated by a former colleague and was chosen as one of the 10 Award winners at the ceremony held in the Radisson Red Hotel in May 2023 in front of 150 guests. The committee said that the accolade was given to celebrate Deven’s outstanding achievements in business within his community and the charity work he has carried out.

“During this period, we have combined first class service with excellent eye care and provided high quality eyewear to the residents of Enfield and the local area.

“I am very proud and honoured to be recognised by the Jinja Ratna Association for the work we have done in developing our independent business and for the numerous charitable contributions we have made.

“My personal history is that I was born in Jinja, but my family moved to the UK when I was a toddler. Enfield has been my adopted home since 1996 and I have great pride in being recognised by multiple organisations for our achievements in the community here.”

Award Winning Opticians

SightCare ‘Community Practice of the Year’ Award Winner 2022

Hammond Opticians was recently named ‘Community Practice of the Year’ by industry group Sight Care for their “dedication to eyecare in the local community”.

Sight Care had invited independent practices from across the UK to enter its awards and carefully selected their shortlisted practices based on their outstanding achievements for their community and their dedication to their craft. They said of Hammond Opticians: “We are exceptionally proud of how independent optical practices have worked to help with the optical needs of their community. They [Hammonds] have shown not only great dedication to their small independent business, but to their local community. We are delighted to announce that Hammond Opticians won Community Practice of the Year after being impressed by the high quality of their application.”

We were also featured in the Enfield Dispatch

The business has been based at the same location in London Road for over 90 years. Practice owner and optometrist Deven Lakhani said: “We are very proud and honoured to be recognised as the community practice of the year by our professional bodies.

Our family-run business has been looking after the eyecare needs for Enfield residents continuously since 1932 and winning this accolade from our peers gives us great satisfaction.

We plan to continue to provide the same level of excellent care and service to all our patients in Enfield for many years to come.”

Deven added: “It is wonderful to be recognised by our peers for our hard work, and we thank our patients for their continued loyalty and support.”

Award Runner-up

SightCare ‘Moment of the Year’ Award 2018

Sight Care Awarded opticians

We are thrilled to announce that Hammond Opticians were nominated for ‘Moment of the Year’ at the inaugural Sight Care Awards in September 2018.

This is a prestigious nationwide award which reflects how an optical practice can make a significant positive difference to the life and well-being of a client. The judging panel commented that the entries were tremendous and all the team at Hammond Opticians were very proud to be selected as the runner up for the award!

The award nomination was based on a particular moment where we went above and beyond our usual day-to-day customer service experience as an opticians. In our case the nomination involved a patient that we helped with a difficult (non-optical) medical situation which followed a home emergency. We ensured the patient was taken care of, delivered their spectacles and helped with some day-to-day tasks until they were able to get back on their feet again.

At the annual Sight Care Conference held in Telford this September, four members of our team attended; Deven, Rina, Debby and Anita (along with Hammond the Hamster). As part of the event the team took time away from their busy day-to-day work in the practice to focus on two days of intensive workshops. This enabled us to keep up to date with the latest lens and frame developments and to share ideas with our peers in the industry.

Debby and Rina attended workshops focusing on Frame Styling so they can help our clients to decide which frames work best for their face shapes and colouring. Deven attended a Business Ideas session and Anita went to the Social Media workshop.

We were also treated to some lovely Green & Blacks chocolates courtesy of the CEO Jo Fairley, who was the closing speaker for the conference and the presenter of the awards.
