Diabetes ‘disaster’ is afflicting 3.2million

DIABETES cases have soared above 3.2million, with last year’s 163,000 diagnoses the highest since 2008, figures have revealed.

While one in 17 Britons now has the condition, a further 850,000 are afflicted without even knowing it, the NHS statistics showed.

Baroness Young, chief executive of Diabetes UK, said Britain was ‘in the middle of an unfolding public health disaster that demands urgent action’.
