Regular eye examinations ensure that you are enjoying the best vision possible and will help to identify eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataract, and macular degeneration in their early stages. Our optometrists can also gain a useful insight into your general health from the appearance of your eyes and may detect underlying conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes.
What Types Of Eye Examinations Do We Offer?
At Hammond Opticians, we offer two types of Eye Examination.
Children’s Eye Examination
This is an eye examination that is specifically designed for children and is available to anyone under the age of 18.
This examination produces a thorough spectacle prescription check in addition to a generalised investigation into your child’s eye health and allows us to make recommendations for use of spectacles, contact lenses or other treatments and typically lasts up to 30 minutes.
During this assessment, our expert clinicians will assess the health of the back of the eye (Retina, Macula and Optic Nerve), examine the External Eye, and perform an assessment of the function of the eye muscles. It may include the specialised Optomap Wide-field Retinal Scans which allows us to ensure your child’s eyes are as healthy as they can be.
The results will be fully explained to you and your child with any recommendations in an easy-to-understand manner.
Enhanced Eye Examination
The Enhanced Eye Examination is our most advanced and thorough option and is the one which is recommended by our eye specialists to all patients.
It provides the most detailed analysis possible for optimising eye health and vision and gives you as much information as possible concerning your eyes. It includes a full sight test and prescription check and includes all further investigations necessary to ensure that your eyes are healthy and your vision is optimal. It may include the specialised Optomap Wide-field Retinal Scans and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) 3D scans.
It is a bespoke examination that allows us to monitor images and track any changes more closely over time with an increased consultation time to allow the information to be explained to you in an easy-to-understand manner.
The OCT instrument provides detailed 3D scans of two vital parts of your eye: the macular and the optic nerve, aiding the early detection or diagnosis of serious eye conditions, in particular Macular Degeneration and Glaucoma.
It is especially useful for early diagnosis of conditions that can affect short-sighted people, diabetics, smokers and those who have a family history of retinal disease.
The Enhanced Eye Examination is suitable for all patients and is available free of charge for any of our iCare and iComplete plan members. For those who prefer to pay for their eyecare, the enhanced eye examination fee is £99.50.
The Enhanced Eye Examination usually takes about 60 minutes to carry out and is also suitable for children.
